With Pinter

Harry Burton's 2007 film Working with Pinter is a unique documentary about a unique writer. Achieving unprecedented access to Harold Pinter working with actors, the film captures his collaborative spirit and offers a remarkable insight into his writing. Participating in a masterclass in 2005, the playwright contributes to the rehearsal of extracts from his own plays offering unprecedented insight into his creative processes. Complementing this revealing footage is an interview with Harold Pinter speaking with his friend and theatrical ally Henry Woolf, as well as liberal quotations from film and television productions of his plays. For nearly fifty years until his death in December 2008, Harold Pinter was at the centre of British and international theatre. It is difficult to over-estimate the impact of his writing. His contribution to British film is also fundamental, including scripts for The Servant, The Go Between and the The French Lieutenant's Woman. Harold Pinter was known too as a vociferous and uncompromising political activist. In late 2005 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature and his acceptance speech is an excoriating attack on the foreign policy of a "brutal, ruthless and scornful" United States. Accompanying Working with Pinter is an in-depth filmed interview with the playwright, including previously unseen material, that explores his views on acting, on directing and on writing. Together, the two films express the essence of Harold Pinter as a supremely human writer, actor, political activist and intellectual.--Kanopy.

VIDEO_ONLINE

eng

<format>VIDEO_ONLINE</format>

<image_url/>

Other Places

BK

eng

Pinter, Harold, 1930-2008

<format>BK</format>
Three Plays

<image_url/>

Poems and Prose, 1949-1977

BK

eng

Pinter, Harold, 1930-2008

<format>BK</format>

<image_url/>

Five Screenplays

BK

eng

Pinter, Harold, 1930-2008

<format>BK</format>

<image_url/>

Harold Pinter

"[A] passionate and astonishing speech, which mixed moral vigour with forensic detail... This was a man delivering an attack on American foreign policy, and Britain's subscription to it, with a controlled anger and a deadly irony. And, paradoxically, it reminded us why Pinter is such a formidable dramatist. He used every weapon in his theatrical technique to reinforce his message. And, by the end, it was as if Pinter himself had been physically recharged by the moral duty to express his innermost feelings." - Michael Billington, The Guardian, December 2005. "Pinter's plays speak volumes between the lines - but bluntly stating his position as he does here, he speaks even more loudly with them. His speech is not just a major contribution to revealing the lies we're living under, but also an important new part towards understanding the man." - The Stage Online, December 2005. In late 2005 Harold Pinter videotaped a lecture on the occasion of the award to him of one of the most distinguished of honours, the Nobel Prize for Literature. His speech, delivered directly to camera, is a complex reflection on his own writing and an excoriating attack on the foreign policy of a "brutal, ruthless and scornful" United States. Harold Pinter reflects on the genesis of his plays "The Homecoming" and "Old Times"; on the problems of political theatre; on the tragedy of American actions in Nicaragua; on the invasion of Iraq and on other crimes by the United States in the past half century. "Art, Truth & Politics" is a speech that made headlines around the world. It is an urgent and compelling appeal for us all as citizens to seek out and honour truth.--Kanopy.

VIDEO_ONLINE

eng

<format>VIDEO_ONLINE</format>
Art, Truth and Politics

<image_url/>
